National Women's History Month March 2008
National Women’s History Month sprang from the Education Task Force of the Sonoma County Commission on the Status of Women in 1978. Wanting to recognize the unsung accomplishments of women in history, the Commission established a local celebration. The outpouring of interest and support for the celebration soon spread to other schools and locales. Three years later, a senator and a representative proposed a National Women’s History Week. Eventually, a month-long recognition was approved. 2008’s National Women’s History Month focuses on the inspiring art of 12 women and their amazing contributions to the history of the nation.
