Writer Biography

I am an American living in Canada since 2013. I have also lived in the UK and studied abroad in East Asia. I have a firm grasp of writing in US, UK, and Canadian English.

I hold a Master's Degree in Gender Studies from SOAS, University of London, and a Bachelor's Degree in Asian Studies and History from an American college. I also studied studio art with a focus on textiles. My undergraduate capstone paper won first prize in a local contest for essays on gender studies.

My primary area of expertise is women's issues, particularly in the "Global North" and the Middle East/North Africa. I have experience writing about violence against women, gender and development, women's rights, law, culture, migration, and other sociological topics. I also have a solid understanding of other social and political issues such as racism, economics, globalization, LGBT rights, mental health, and harm reduction.

I am currently working part-time as a writing specialist in non-profit grant proposal development and have contributed to a pilot program that received more than $50,000 from the provincial government.

My main strength as a writer is my ability to write clearly and accurately for a variety of audiences. I have written extensively in academic, work, and casual contexts. I have professional experience with social media, having served as the social media administrator in an ESL-focused high school.

My hobbies/interests include historical perfumery, all sorts of things related to yarn, outdoor activities, visual arts (especially Chinese Literati painting), attempting to learn other languages, and scoping out the vegetarian and vegan restaurants in my city.
