Hello! I just received an email from a customer asking me to submit the articles I claimed that are due today. I have never claimed any articles for this customer. I am wondering if this was a blanket email sent to everyone. (?)

Yeah it was. If you're a part of a writer pool, the customer has the option to send a global email to all the writers. Took me off guard for a minute too!
