How to format measurements?

Post by Mackenzie »

I was told to resubmit my article after revising but I can't find how I'm supposed to format measurments.

Is it "2-by-5 inches"? Or "2 inches by 5 inches"?

What is the preferred style guide to consult for measurements and dimensions and such?

Thanks you...

Check out AP style for it (I don't know what it is). It'll tell you how to format it to follow a guideline, which is probably what the editor wants.

A good place for style guidelines is Purdue's website.

http://owl.english.purdue.edu/

and

http://styleguide.yahoo.com/, specifically http://styleguide.yahoo.com/editing/app ... ts-measure

According to the Yahoo style guide, you would write 2 by 5 inches. I'm sure you could also get by with writing 2 inches by 5 inches; it depends on the object you're talking about.
