Capitalisation help

Post by Lazers »

Recently had an article rejected for 'inconsistent and missing' capitalisation. I believe I have fixed the major issues, but one thing puzzles me still. If I have something in quotes, such as 'System Restore' because that's how it appears on the computer as a title, am I wrong in using 'system restore' without the quotes when referring to it as a function?

Then click on 'System Restore'. As you can see, system restore allows...
Etc.

I believe in this context that System Restore is the name of the function and therefore a proper noun. Microsoft capitalizes it on its Web site as well.

So, what I would do when referring to the System Restore feature is capitalize it. For example: Use System Restore to roll your system back to an earlier point in time.

I would not capitalize it when speaking generically such as: Do Apple computers come with some sort of system restore software?
