Hi everyone

Post by IsotopeMan »

I'm new to CC but not to freelance writing/editing. I have a quick question if any of you would be kind enough to reply. I've already sold one article here and have a couple more under review, one of which was rejected for a hyphenation error in a compound adjective containing a numeral: fifteen- and thirty-year plan. I'm up to speed on CMOS and AP style, but there is a difference here. Normally, i expect to drop the second part of a compound if the word is the same, hence i used fifteen- and not fifteen-year and thirty-year. What format does CC use then? :?

Hi there. Looks like the forum is catching up with itself as there are many older posts I haven't seen before. So a belated welcome to CC.

I don't know how to answer your question, and it may be too late now, anyway. However, to get round the problem, I would change it to something like a fifteen-year plan and a thirty-year one, assuming the style rule for numericals, of using numbers for any value over ten, doesn't apply.
