I am ready to explode!

Post by Hammia »

Hi and hello,

I am happy to be here and excited too. I've submitted three articles. All are under review and now I can't submit any more.

It's not as if I don't have a million other things to be doing but I am dying to see what happens with these articles. Actually I suspect all three will be rejected. Maybe not. I hope not. I guess I have to brush up on my skills a bit but ... waiting... is ... torture.

In the meantime, my fidgeting, finger rattling and inane humming is getting on everybody's nerves so I guess I'll either have to start writing something else or actually do some work on my 'real' job. Hmmm. Wonder which it'll be?

Hi there and welcome.

The waiting is tough. But in fairness, Ed does a good job. Not only does he run the acceptance process, but he's active on the forums. No other writing site that I know of does that. If it is accepted then you know it was good. If it gets rejected then you always get a reason why. I would use this time to start other content and really take the time to double and triple check it against the guidelines so it will be ready in the wings when your pending articles are accepted.

Best of luck to ya, - Phil :D

PS. In my limited experience I've noticed that requested content gets through the review cycle quicker.

Hi Phil and thanks for the welcome,

The time spent waiting is also good lurking time. I am getting a lot of information just by reading questions and posts that have gone before.

I would like to make a success of my writing but what is hard for me is that I have mostly only written for my own blogs / websites. You could say that as I was so close to the editor that I never had anyone tell me what I was writing wouldn't pass the grade or pull me up on any bad habits and boy, I am sure I have a lot of them.

It's a bit daunting sending articles off into the blue for review but I know in the long run my writing skills will benefit even if my bank balance does not. :)

Welcome Hammia! Even if your articles are rejected, you can always ask for help on the forums before re-submitting. But I am keeping my fingers crossed for you that they'll be accepted first time! I agree with Phil--use this time to work on some more articles so you don't drive yourself crazy waiting. :)

Thank you Antonia,

I have my fingers crossed too but it is making it very difficult to type. :)

Okay, so I arrived all full of excitement and posted three articles right away. I have been on tenterhooks for the last week but have now just got my first rejection notice. I am afraid that if the other two articles were also to be rejected Ed's patience with me would be at an end and I'd be asked to leave before finishing my first cup of tea. (Where's me coat?)

I've just deleted the remaining two articles and will take more time to proof read and triplecheck them before re-submitting.

What was the reason given for the rejection? Maybe we can help. Believe it or not, no one wants you to fail. Not even Ed. He is just in the unfortunate position of having to say "no" based on a set of criteria. If you want I'll be happy to help if I can. - Phil

Phil, I appreciate your kind offer.

The reason given was, "We do not accept content with grammar or word choice errors, punctuation errors, or other errors." When I sent it I thought it was fine. Now I think it is a hopeless case and I would be better to rewrite it from scratch. :?

The other two articles were probably not as bad but I didn't want to lose this fine chance on the back of careless mistakes. I have shelved them for the moment and submitted a new article for public request. I think I covered all the bases with that one. I guess I will know soon enough. If it is also rejected then I would be delighted to have another set of eyes look it over for me.

Shelf the others for a few days and go back and read them. You won't have that rejection funk in your head and the article will be like reading a new article. I envy the people here who are able to proof the same day they write, but it really does make a difference if you wait a few days before the proofing process.
