Re: Rejection of "Which Tablet Will You Buy This Christmas"

Hi, it's me again, trying to help :). I think the article can benefit from a tighter writing style. Doesn't mean you have to sacrifice a conversational tone, but you could get rid of some of the vague qualifiers such as "just a couple of." I'm a firm believer in the 30 percent rule. That i...

Re: My editor is killing me

There are many reasons why "there are" (and "there is") is singled out as lazy or simply picked on, but that doesn't mean "there are" (and "there is") should never be used, even by those who personally can't stand the phrase. 1. It's overused. 2. It's passive....

Re: Isn't this strange?

Yes, I get that. I think you can do a little of both. The key is to find the the right balance, and it sounds like the editor felt it was too heavy on the indirect, reassuring side versus the "here's what you can do" side. (Just my interpretation of course). Also, remember with web writing...

Re: Isn't this strange?

Hi,

It's more direct to just say it:
Ask friends who recently had a baby. They are likely to be generous, and happily clear out their cupboards, with someone who is about to go through the same experience. Try freecycling websites as well.

Re: Excerpt or Full Article

Hi, You can make changes to the short and long summaries directly without having to re-upload the document or go through the review process (as long as the original document doesn't need to be changed). If the excerpts make the article look incomplete or choppy to you, then they'll probably look tha...

Re: Getting lots of emails about non-existent requests from

I have the same problem here in California. It seems intermittent. I used to get tons, then not so much, then sometimes none despite the volume of emails. I've tried refreshing the writer pool page every so often in case it was a delay thing... nope. Recently I shortened my availability/turnaround t...

Re: Pricing an article

JAK is correct. Here's a simple formula to make sure you get your desired price:

Desired Price after CC cut / .65 = Asking Price on CC

For example, if you want to get $45 you should price the article at $69 based on the following formula:

$45/.65= $69

Re: Them ones are better

It kind of depends on the audience and the context - maybe even the humor or authoritative approach. It's often a delicate balance... Can you give us an example of the paragraph? * While y'all may refer to them ones in casual situations, them ones should be properly addressed in business and formal ...

Re: *Generic yet witty hello*?

A generic but not so witty "welcome." Sounds like you have lots of potential articles that are perfect for CC's client base in you. Have you had a chance to submit any yet?

Re: contacting request submitters

Hi and welcome. Unless the request specifically says they want personal or first person accounts, keep the article in second or third person. As far as editing and proofreading forum posts, it's up to you. I wouldn't worry about the occasional typo or grammar error in a forum, but keep in mind that ...

Re: Finding Author By Category Not Working

In that case, I would avoid the "Find a Writer" screen and either just browse the Religion category or use the article search feature. I entered "wiccan" into the top search box and a few articles came up. From there, you could look at each writer's profile.

Re: Finding Author By Category Not Working

It's kind of funky. I just tried it and the initial step failed. BUT, if you click on Advanced Search after it fails, you'll be directed to a fill-in-the blanks search screen. Fill in the blanks as desired and then find the category. Make sure to click "Add Category" followed by clicking &...

Re: bylines coming up in Google

I'm not sure. If you're signed up with a pen name, CC knows your real name and your pen name I believe. So if the other name is your real name, then you might be able to explain and get that through. It gets murkier with multiple pen names however. After all, how can CC know any one of us has a legi...
