Probably a silly question...

I've been getting these emails from CC (I'm sure everyone is) and I don't know what they're really about. The subject of the latest one is 'Writers needed for multiple opportunities'. I've gotten quite a few of these email blasts, looking for writers for big projects. What I don't understand is.. ar...

Re: Selling Use Rights

That sounds like something I should consider. I guess I didn't mind selling use rights because I tend to price them only 5 or 10 less and it seemed like a good idea, with a required byline (not that it means all that much) but I hate feeling cheated in any way. Watching people buy use rights and the...

Re: Selling Use Rights

Yes, I always include the byline right under the title. They're deliberately removing it. If there's nothing we can do about it, and it sounds like essentially there isn't much, I'd consider selling both use and full at the same price. It's disappointing to hear that CC haven't responded when you've...

Selling Use Rights

I've sold a few use rights and my understanding was that they had to use the article as it was bought, with the byline and everything as I wrote it. Is this true? If not, I've seen some of my articles, the ones sold for use, that have been changed and don't have my name. One of them says it was writ...

Re: Received a written flaying

Hi Abba, I have been slowly pushing it off of my mind. The weekend has really helped. The misery lasted less than it normally does because I couldn't think of anything I could really have done better. Thanks for commenting. I know people must have mostly good experiences with it, I was just hoping n...

Re: Received a written flaying

Thanks guys. I know I fret too much over things I can't necessarily control. I'm not sure how I could have better handled it but I'm one of those sad sacks who goes over and over it all in their head, trying to figure out how it could have gone better. There's definitely a lot of stress and bad mora...

Received a written flaying

Just writing this as a vent/general question type of post. Sorry it's so long! I had my first private request today (yay!) where the client wanted a continuation of an article of mine she'd purchased. She felt it was incomplete and wanted me to finish it. I thought that was a strange request but jus...

Re: Will I lose full license if....

If you sell for use, then you'll lose the ability to sell full or unique rights because someone else will have already used it. But you can sell the usage rights as much as you want or can. However, 11$ for a 1200 word article is a pretty bad offer. Was this customer called 'info' by any chance? Wha...

Re: Word Count

Do you write your articles in the box? I copy and paste from Word but I don't add the word count in myself. Once I've saved it, it'll automatically add the word count in so that when I go back in to view it, the word count will be there. There might be some way to see it as you're writing but I don'...

Thanks for the advice! I think it's helping. A couple straight acceptances with one review. I really appreciate the help.

Re: What is your CC "Eureka" moment?

Thanks Lysis. My first ten went in pretty well but now it's... bumpy, as you say. I think I just need to get used to the style here. Wordy is my problem but I'm getting a lot of articles stopped for one or two things that seem to be a matter of opinion instead. Hopefully I'll get the hang of it befo...

Re: Requested Article Prices

Yes, this exactly. It seems like most people say most of their catalog sell eventually so it can't really hurt. Seems like a lot of the current requests are priced a little low for word count anyway and I'm not sure it would even be worth trying. 16$ for 500 words? Can't see that one budging much to...

Re: What is your CC "Eureka" moment?

Thanks muchly! I'm actually waiting to be suspended because it seems 80% of my articles come back with rejections... So I'm not sure how invested I should get in the site. Still would like to make it work but we'll see.

Re: Requested Article Prices

I think it's doable. I've just sold one in the public requests for 5$ higher than the asking price. I wanted to keep my $/word count at a reasonable place and the person bought it. Granted, 5$ isn't very much more but I don't think it can hurt to put the price where you want it, within reason.

Re: What is your CC "Eureka" moment?

I've had a Eureka!! moment! I first listed an article in 2011 (not sure why or what for) and then abandoned the site until 2014. Then I posted another four articles (once again, no idea why). And this month, my first article sold. It was a crazy email to receive when I'd completely forgotten about C...
