I've found that titles are VERY important - it's got to be somewhat like a tabloid headline to grab the reader's attention right off the top.

that, and the first paragraph must be like a newspaper article - get to the point, grab the attention of the reader and make him/her want to read on.

ah, I know what you're saying - I think, personally, part of the problem is how the website is set up for the person to submit the article. There may be no option for the person to say "submitted by"; just "written by" - after all, if your name is at the bottom of the article the...
