Writer Biography

Born in Los Alamos, New Mexico, I spent my formative years in Idaho, although summering in Denver with Grandma Laura remains the most memorable of times. Blessed with three grown children, I now have four grandsons and a little, unclipped schnauzer, but will never forget my diabetic, blind, rescue dog, Spirit. What else would I name him?
After raising a family and years of satisfying employment in the banking industry and Law Enforcement, a car accident abruptly changed my life style. I began to sort through piles of notes I had jotted down through the years. Scribbling down a thought on a napkin at a restaurant or on an envelope addressed to “Occupant” had been a common occurrence. Attempting to decipher my poor penmanship a few days later and recall the significance of the moment was a never-ending source of irritation. Incessant reading, frequent travels, stopping at every Historical Site (annoying to fellow travelers), amateur photography, and chatting with folks encountered on each journey provided the inspiration for a great deal of my writing.
Operating Passage Publishing was an unexpected opportunity that gave me the great pleasure of collaborating with gifted writers, photographers, and illustrators from shore to shore. I moved to Nashville, Tennessee in 2003 with my daughter. The South would not be a permanent home, but would be manageable for a while (can’t take the West out of the girl).
Regrets? I would like to say that I have none. I would prefer to conclude that every down has been an up and every failure has led to successful reinvention. Very Oprahish and guilt freeing, but I am not so sure I believe that applies in every case.
The mountains are majestic and the ocean is good company, but being a desert rat by nature, the enchanting landscapes of New Mexico will forever hold a special place in my heart. On my last two-year trek through the desert, a Native American friend, who wished I would stay, renamed me. I would be called “Wanders no More” from that day on. When the nomadic life style ends, I will settle in a little, adobe house with a red-tiled roof surrounded by cacti and desert flowers. My days will be filled with studying some complicated subject, jotting down my thoughts, helping homeless people and animals, painting terra cotta pottery, and listening to timeless tunes by Freddie Mercury and Bob Dylan. Oh, I will be digging around in the earth looking for some small remnant of one who came before.
