The recent Russian invasion of Georgia has raised once again the prospect of a new confrontation between Russia and the West. This article sggests that this development may initially appear to be to Barack Obama´s disadvantage, as John McCain can claim to have more experience in dealing with international affairs. However if a comparison is made with the last time the United States elected a young inexperienced man to the presidency, a case can be made for Obama using his perceived inexperience as as a springboard for a new and innovative approach to contemporary problems.
