January Writer Update

Post by IsaacJ »

Hi everyone, Shari and Isaac from the Constant Content team here. We’re back again with the first writer update of 2019!

As we kick off the new year, we wanted to remind writers to update your profile with all your great achievements from 2018! Having an in-depth and up-to-date bio helps clients find your profile and portfolio of content.

News
In light of the recent issue with some content being stolen, we are making a platform update to the way clients can preview catalog content.

Going forward, writers will not be able to set their summary length to more than 75%. We are also removing the ability for trusted clients to preview 100% of an article before buying.

How does this impact you?
1. If your default summary length was set to 100%, then it will change to 75%.
2. By limiting the ability for people to see a full article, it’s less likely for content to be stolen from our platform.

A 75% view of the article should be enough for a buyer to make an informed decision of whether or not to purchase it.

To help, we also put together an article on how writers can find and take down stolen content. There’s a link at the bottom of this post if you want to check it out.

Top Writers
We also wanted to give a special shout out to our top writers for January. In no particular order, the top 10 writers for January were:
• Sara Dueck
• CarlyReynolds
• Writerredd
• Christopher Godwin

As one of the writers who had content stolen, THANK YOU for your ongoing prompt attention to the matter!

Regarding the above-noted quote, how specific can we be when updating our bios if the updates contain information about content posted outside of Constant Content, e.g. bylines elsewhere? We're not supposed to lead clients off of Constant Content but can't promote our accomplishments if we can't link to them. :?:

That's a great question. You're right that you can't have a link, but I was thinking things like:
  • New places you've been featured: (My writing has been featured in publications such as Inc., and Forbes)
New niches you're working in (Ex. A video game writer started creating content around virtual reality gaming)
    Courses you've completed
If there's something specific you're wondering about feel free to ask!

That's great news! If we can mention where our writing has been featured (as long as we don't include a link) it should help Constant Content writers showcase their niche expertise. Thanks! :D

The 75% view has just about bottomed out my spec sales which were pretty good. I don't know why 100% can't be one of the options. The writer takes the responsibility if it gets stolen. I haven't sold a single spec article this month even though I've add 11 new ones this month. I usually sell several a month.

I brought a customer to CC a few years ago and since I know them personally we re sometimes in contact. He purchases in a category I don't write about (which is why I brought him here). He recently told me he is going elsewhere for tech articles, even though it is costing him double and more because he can see 100% of. I'm sure others feel the same way. I always showed 100% because the client couldn't come back and say he/she didn't like the part that was hidden. Now they have a perfect excuse after they buy it... to turn around and say they don't like it after all and want a refund. There will be a lot more work stolen that way.

It may not be worth it for me to write spec articles anymore. I'll give it another month and if they don't start selling, I'll stick to requests only.

Anyone else noticing this?
