Top Multi Tools For Everyday Carrying: Best Products Review

Multi tools are passed off by most people as a: “niche” thing.

After all, what can the average person need a multi tool for, right? The only people who are going to need it are professionals like electricians, engineers, hunters, law enforcement, and military personnel.

That cannot be more wrong.

A pair of good multi tools can benefit anyone, regardless of who you are and what you do. Office workers can use the knife blade to open up the occasional packages and letters, students can use the USB drive or the ballpoint pen that many high quality multi tools now have. There are even multi tools designed for the ladies with nail files, tweezers, and other tools for quick touch-ups.

Although you may not need them all the time like professionals do, as you can see, having a multi tool set close by is immensely helpful. And with that said, here are some of the best multi tools on the market you can carry with you anywhere!

Gerber Dime

The Gerber Dime is highly pragmatic in terms of design. Though it only has a small number of tools, Gerber has made sure that the tools included are the most popular and would be used often.

The Dime is equipped with 10 different tools in total, which includes a pliers wire cutter, knife blades, bottle and can openers, scissors, tweezers, files, and screwdrivers. But because it is designed to be as compact as possible, all of the tools are quite small. They don’t look reinforced enough to handle tough tasks like tightening industrial screws, either, so we don’t recommend you to use it to tighten industrial-sized screws or similarly intensive activities.

The knife blade is also rather short, but if you only ever expect to use your multi tool to open up packages and cutting paper, it’s enough.

The Gerber Dime has a stainless steel construction, resulting in better durability. The steel is also anodized to make it more resistant against corrosion. You can fully expect this set of best rated multi tools to last for several years before needing a replacement.

Leatherman Skeletool CX

Just like the Gerber Dime, the Leatherman Skeletool CX is a high quality multi tool that’s oriented more towards being practical and easy to carry than having the most number of tools.

It has all of the common tools that anyone would find themselves using eventually, such as bottle and can openers, different sizes of screwdrivers (including a Phillips screwdriver), wire cutters, pliers, and a knife blade. The blade in particular has a solid locking mechanism for safe and easy deployment.

The Skeletool CX isn’t just lightweight and portable, it’s also very comfortable to hold and use. The heat-tread stainless steel construction ensures that the multi tool is capable of withstanding even the worst of abuses. The handle is coated with a layer of Tungsten/DLC carbon fiber to improve its ruggedness even further.

Albeit small, the detail that truly makes this multi tool an excellent model for everyday carry is the removable carabiner pocket clip. You can clip it onto your belt for easier transport, lash it onto the strap of your backpack, or put it up your car’s visor.

The only negative thing about the Skeletool CX is the bit driver, which isn’t the popular ¼-inch bit. It’s quite strange, considering the fact that there’s no logical explanation for why Leatherman opted not to include it with this multi tool. Nonetheless, for people who need the standard ¼-inch bit, this is a blemish in an otherwise best rated multi tool.

Conclusion

These two are currently the best multi tools for EDC on the market at the moment. Whichever model you choose, we are certain that they will satisfy!

I always switch to size 3 on the editor (when I copy paste from the document on my computer it automatically goes into size 2). I'm not sure if size 3 is actually required but I do know that it's accepted by the editors.
