Photo submission question

Hi all. A newbie, have just submitted first two articles!
I have a number of photos I think are good enough quality for submission here but have a question first.
My files average around 2500 pixels and are currently saved as uncompressed TIFF files. I come from graphic design background and these are really print quality.. which makes them LARGE files. How does it usually work - what is an acceptable file size for submission, what level and type of compression is normal/expected?
Ok a couple of questions... All answers much appreciated!
