Sometimes you just have to shrug and laugh...
I've just had an article rejected for the first time in a *long* time. A lot of the edits I can sort of see the point of, although they're not corrections as such, more a matter of style. They prefer very short sentences. Positively staccato. Fair enough. No complaints. Or verbs. One 'correction' ho...

Re: Conclusions
I always put a conclusion of some sort in, even though as you say it sometimes doesn't seem particularly appropriate. A single sentence usually does the trick, along the lines of "tell them what you've told them", and even if it sticks out like a sore thumb the customer can always delete i...

Re: Request Settings Page Questions
It seems to me that 5 will often (but not always) be enough to get the category listed on your profile, although the "green entries" show up with 6. I was wondering about this just the other day though - will "going green" actually lead to more targetted requests in that category...

You're making me nervous... I'm waiting on a very large project to go through and I'm edgy enough as it is

Re: Throwing Articles at the Catalog
As well as keeping a regular eye on sold articles page, so getting a feel for both the topics and writing styles which seem to be the most sought after, you could try writing for as many of the customer-posted requests as you can. That way, you'll not only be working on subjects you know there's a m...

Re: Twiddling my thumbs
I too write almost exclusively in the second person, never had a problem. > Using "we" when it refers to the reader and writer, or humanity in general, is acceptable. Arrggh, thanks for pointing that one out HG. Very early on in my time here I got dinged for doing exactly that. I just took...

Re: Twiddling my thumbs
Also bear in mind the time of year - like most of us, the editors will probably still have a backlog from the holidays to catch up on, and as PaulMaplesden mentioned, paying customer requests will have the priority over catalog submissions. FWIW I've also got quite a few submissions waiting for revi...

Re: Received a written flaying
Sorry for your bad experience. I agree though that you should maybe ask the client to request a refund from CC. In my experience in writing and other fields, bad clients are nowhere near worth the stress and poor morale they cause - if you've honestly done your best but it's not worked out, politely...

Heh, I've just had most of my resubmitted articles approved. The kind editors removed the notes on all but one - but that one sold immediately, note intact, before I got a chance to edit

Re: Hi! I'm Laura, and nervous
Hello and welcome! I wouldn't worry too much about not getting feedback on a rejection - if anything, you'll probably find any mistakes are pointed out in blisteringly precise detail ;) Not to worry though, I don't think the editors are quite as fearsome as they're often made out to be. Good luck wi...

Re: Unsold articles in limbo
Thanks HG, I suppose I'll follow your lead. Do you include any sort of explanatory note to the editors? I'd hate an article to get caught up in some sort of dupe problem. On the wider point, I find public requests fairly good if they're on a general topic or one that can be repurposed. Most sell for...

Unsold articles in limbo
I have several articles written for 'Call for Articles' requests which have been accepted but didn't sell. They also haven't been moved back to the catalog, even though the 7 day limit has been passed. Some articles go back to the 25th November and earlier. Any ideas?
Thanks
