Re: The Writer/Editor Relationship

I think there are definite benefits in learning to check your work rigorously. But sometimes the placing of a comma can, in my opinion, be a matter of discretion or style, depending on the effect you want to create, so it can be painful to have stuff sent back for that reason; and these are the time...

Re: The Writer/Editor Relationship

I think tm is right, it would save everyone's time if the editors checked the whole thing even if they haven't got the time to make more than generic comments. There is a bias towards US English. I was using consistently UK English, but got an article rejected for the lack of a full stop after Mr (o...

Re: Rejected twice -- what am I missing?

It is hard when that happens: I am sure I have had the same article rejected 3 times: certainly twice. Are you sure that there isn't a reason buried somewhere in the rejection note? I did think maybe there should be a comma after the 'However', and the editors are merciless when it comes to commas w...

Re: Abbreviations question

and, I have found the bit from Wikipedia that you referred me to last time, but this time it doesn't really give an answer: 'Americans tend to write Mr., Mrs., St., Dr.; the British will most often write Mr, Mrs, St, Dr, following the rule that a full stop/period is used only when the last letter of...

Re: Abbreviations question

Yes both of those concur with what I would think. But I had a rejection for 'But' in an informal article. Also for the lack of a stop in another one, but can't remember what the word was....I'll try to check. If it was an acronym then I will venture the lab, but if it was a straight abbreviation I w...

Abbreviations question

Hallo all. I have a bit of trouble with abbreviations, and I wonder if anyone could help. If so, many thanks indeed. Abbreviations seem to be marked by a full stop more often in US than in UK English, and I had an article rejected for absence of the markers where I thought they were not needed. I wa...

Re: Writers Pools

I emailed the editors direct and that resulted in my writers pool tab appearing on the left. I was shocked to see there that my acceptance rate is only 38%, and I was also surprised to see that apparently one applies for a whole category like 'articles' rather than more specific subject headings: ma...

Re: Writers Pools

Thanks! I haven't seen a way to apply on the site, could you point me to it? I suspect that I won't be able to, but as you say, no harm in trying! Thanks again.

Writers Pools

Hallo, could anyone clarify whether it's possible to apply for inclusion in the writers pools? There are references in the forum posts to applying for the pools, but the general information on the site suggests that one has to wait to be asked. Is that something that has changed recently, leading to...

Re: Still no sales!

Thanks everyone! I have had a sale at last, so feeling less discouraged but if I had a day-job I wouldn't be giving it up quite yet. Cheers.

Still no sales!

I've got about 16 articles up I think and none sold, is this a record? What is the largest number of articles anyone has had accepted by CC before a sale? I mean articles by people who have gone on to sell a fair amount....Am I flogging a dead horse or am I a lightweight who needs to persist with th...

Who are the buyers?

As an inexperienced freelance writer, I would be grateful for any clue really, about the buyers of articles, and the websites they get published on. Is there any way that the requests could give more indication of the tone that's wanted, like maybe including a link to the website in question, or a s...

For A Requests

Anyone else find it funny that the submission form asks whether the submission is 'for a Requests'?
I didn't notice before, so maybe it's just happened.
