Re: Seasonal?

Yes, editing does seem very delayed lately, at least for catalog stuff. ::shrug:: Not something I can control. Re seasonal sales, I've not noticed any particular pattern. I've had good, bad, and terrible months, but nothing that appears to repeat. Summer has been pretty good for me so far this year....

Re: Forbidden Words on CC

Ass, as in 'get your ass in gear'. Used in an obviously lighthearted way, but apparently way too offensive ::shrug::

Re: How Best to Provide Samples to a Client?

Personally, I'd make sure the articles were general enough to sell through the catalog, and then submit them to CC as usual. I'd be very wary of providing free custom work to an unknown client via the messaging system...

Re: Title Research for Writers

Makes sense. More chance to hook the reader? I definitely find titles in the form "Short How to / x things Phrase - Longer phrase with a catchy benefit" work better than a six word wonder... I can't help feeling the short title fetish came from old-school SEO where you didn't want the titl...

Re: Well, I'm never writing for the catalogue again

Hehe, well that's got me thinking on a late Friday afternoon :D

I really do see the reasoning behind limited previews. And I suppose I should give it another try, but being a bit more subtle about it than I was.

Plenty to ponder, thanks.

Re: Well, I'm never writing for the catalogue again

Frustrating, isn't it. I'm not sure what can be done though. The last time I noticed a batch of my work had been stolen, I notified CC but got nothing concrete back apart from an acknowledgement. I also spent a day or so reducing the preview size of all my articles. Sales dropped off a cliff, so aft...

Re: "Linking" to another website in the CC Author Bio

Nope, it just means you can't take clients you met through CC and deal with them independently (therefore not paying the 35% to CC of course)

You're free to work for anyone you drum up through your own efforts away from CC......

Re: "Linking" to another website in the CC Author Bio

I wouldn't think that's a great idea. I'd guess it comes under the general prohibition on making contact with customers except via the CC system. They don't want to be cut out of the loop, and who can blame them :)

Yep, it had a VB script named "payment terms" in the attachment. And the script was highly obfuscated. Very dodgy

First Person (Sigh)

I'm well aware of the rule concerning first person narratives. However, the extended writer guidelines explicitly state the following: Using “we” when it refers to the reader and writer, or humanity in general, is acceptable. So I used something like "We're all aware of..." once in an arti...

Re: Do you leave your content in "waiting" status?

Just out of interest, what's the longest you've seen between an article go into waiting, and subsequently sell?

Although I usually leave it five working days before taking any action, I'm not sure I've seen anything sell after more than maybe a working day in waiting. Anyone else?

Re: My private request article has been in review for 2+ wee

Always worth asking the client to contact CC in situations like this. As paying customers, they have more sway.
