Re: What is your CC "Eureka" moment?
I base my pricing on factors such as: Usefulness, originality and quality of the article Typical price range for that niche Amount of work it takes to write it The word count itself is less relevant to me. I could write a 1000 word article, but if there's lots of it out there already, I won't charge...

Choose your featured articles?
I think it would help writers if we could choose the "featured articles" on our profiles. Right now, it's only the last 5 articles that get featured -- the same ones that appear in the article list under the byline. Isn't that redundant? We could make better use of that space. How about th...

What happened?
Couldn't log in to CC all day. Now I've finally been able to log in, my account is empty. What's going on? I notice there are no recently sold items, so it can't be just me. Did CC suffer a crash? Hope nobody's lost any data for good!

Re: How to Sell More Articles
I think the article is excellent even though I disagree with one aspect when it comes to me. I prefer to sell full use only. While I have only been on CC for three months, I have been a writer for many years. I am OLDER than the hills! :) I don't like to see my work on more than one site so full us...

Re: What book do you recommend for better writing?
Thanks weagle87! I just looked up Elements of Style. Sounds like just the kind of book I need. I also found some others. Time to use the library! :) But lately here I've just been using the Internet and my word processor. So far my recent articles have all been accepted. Thinking good thoughts! I gu...

Re: What book do you recommend for better writing?
Thanks, SJ! Well, whatever I'm doing must be working. I've gotten all my recent articles approved. Listened to advice here and kept my sentences short and simple!

Re: What book do you recommend for better writing?
Thanks, J.A. Very true. Also, the more we know about the subject, the less research that needs to be done. So you end up writing more articles per day. :) I'm putting my word processor's proofing tools to work now! Keeping my fingers crossed that my most recent submissions get through without a prob...

Re: passive voice use
I know this is an old post but I thought I'd add a few comments:
Passive voice slows down reading. Most of the articles we write end up on the Web where people like to read quickly. So passive voice ought to be kept at a minimum. I myself have used passive voice a lot. I'm unlearning the habit.

Author byline in usage license?
I understand that authors can choose to include or not include an author byline in their articles. If there isn't a byline and an article sells under "use" license, does this mean the buyer can publish the article w/o the author's name? I just saw one of my articles online and it doesn't h...

Note to editors!
I deleted an article that was in the queue (not reviewed yet). I made a lot of changes to it (basically rewrote it) and submitted it tonight. I tried very hard to do a better job writing this one. It's entitled "10 Useful Ways to Kill Time During a Long Flight." Please note it is a NEW art...

Re: After 2 rejections...
evaku, thanks for that link! I'll try it. I didn't even think of using my word processor. I use LibreOffice. Guess I'm stuck with writing simple 400 word articles until my style improves! Can I ask another question? What do we do with ideas in our rejected articles? Could we take those ideas and wri...

Re: After 2 rejections...
Thank you! Great track record, Lysis! Isabelnewth, I have about 20 articles published but the longest I've gone without a rewrite or rejection was about 5 or 6 articles. The "do not resubmit" articles were about awkward wording. I think Lysis is right in saying we should keep our sentences...

Re: What book do you recommend for better writing?
Thanks. Well, as well as you two write, I don't think you'll need a book anyway. :) After the 2 rejections last night (no rewrite possible), I got another one this morning but with a rewrite request. I decided to delete the rest of the articles I had in the queue. I guess I just don't write the way ...

What book do you recommend for better writing?
What reference work would be most helpful for a new CC writer? I've had about 20 articles approved and 2 sales, but I've also gotten several rejections - including 2 that I'm not allowed to resubmit. Would it help to consult the AP Stylebook or the Yahoo Style Guide? What would you recommend?
