Which is interesting, as hipsters don\u2019t actually exist &#8211; at least according to them. Call someone a hipster and you will be scolded for your lack of insight and generalization. Because you know, hipsters were only hipsters before it was cool.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>So how does one create content to reach this very fickle, very \u201cobscure\u201d genre of individuals? A good place to start is taking a look at what makes \u201cauthentic\u201d hipsters tick and finding ways to appeal to their unique sensibilities.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><span id=\"here-are-8-ways-to-reach-the-rare-and-obscure-hipster-and-a-few-jokes-sorry-in-advance-hipster-friends\"><strong>Here are 8 ways to reach the rare and obscure hipster (and a <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jokes4us.com\/peoplejokes\/hipsterjokes.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>few jokes<\/strong><\/a><strong> \u2013 sorry in advance, hipster friends):<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<h3><span id=\"help-them-be-original\"><strong>Help them be original<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Hipsters love to feel novel but sometimes even they need a little help. Make sure your content is unique and, if it is, they are much more likely to read and share it so they can claim to be the \u201cfirst\u201d who found it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u201c<\/em><em>I was a millennial before they became a target demographic.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li>\n<h3><span id=\"thrive-on-apathy-and-irony\"><strong>Thrive on apathy and irony<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>This is especially important. Don\u2019t try to be cool. But if you do, do it ironically.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u201cDid you hear about the <\/em><em>two hipsters who walked into a bar? The first one did it before it was cool, and the second one did it ironically.<\/em>\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li>\n<h3><span id=\"dont-interrupt-brunch\"><strong>Don\u2019t interrupt brunch<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Generally, don\u2019t post anything before 12pm. Any earlier and you\u2019ll undoubtedly catch them while they are at the \u201cbest\u201d undiscovered hole-in-wall breakfast joint around.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong><em>Q: Why did the hipster burn his tongue? <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>A: Because he ate his food before it was cool.<\/em><\/p>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li>\n<h3><span id=\"understand-their-struggle\"><strong>Understand their struggle<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Hipsters are nonconformists, valiantly fighting the battle against stuffy corporate culture. Therefore, create content that\u2019s quirky, fun and maybe even a bit risky to grab their attention.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong><em>\u201cI enjoy being downvoted. It shows that I have a unique opinion.\u201d <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li>\n<h3><span id=\"flash-your-hipster-credentials\"><strong>Flash your hipster credentials <\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Talk about how organic, local or homegrown your products are and you\u2019ll have them eating out of the palm of your hand. Hipsters especially value startup, mom-and-pop shops that specialize in quaint handmade goods.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u201cYou drink Starbucks? That\u2019s cool. I pick my own coffee beans so I don\u2019t abuse 3<sup>rd<\/sup> world farmers.\u201d <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Accentuating your business\u2019s human side can help to create a more personal, authentic relationship with hipsters. If possible, casually add in some photos of you drinking Pabst Blue Ribbon and\/or anything out of a mason jar.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"6\">\n<li>\n<h3><span id=\"appreciate-old-is-new-again\"><strong>Appreciate old is new again<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Related to your credentials, fixed gear bikes, typewriters and polaroid cameras are <em>essential<\/em> items for the modern hipster. Use images of these objects as visual confirmation of your hipster knowledge and trendiness. But again, don\u2019t <em>try<\/em> to be cool.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u201cI like mainstream. Because hating mainstream is too mainstream.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ol start=\"7\">\n<li>\n<h3><span id=\"induce-beard-stroking\"><strong>Induce beard stroking<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>We all appreciate a good beard on a man but hipsters especially pride themselves on them. Therefore, your content needs to be interesting and thought-provoking enough for them to need to stroke their beards while reading.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong><em>\u201cI\u2019m not a hipster. Beards are just ironic.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ol start=\"8\">\n<li>\n<h3><span id=\"kale-kale-and-more-kale\"><strong>Kale, Kale\u2026. and more Kale<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>If all else fails, talk about kale, and the many things you can do with kale, and all the reasons why kale is the most important thing in the world.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong><em>\u201cI was eating kale before you even discovered spinach.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Although you may never meet someone owning up to the title of hipster, it\u2019s obvious that there are many of them out there. The biggest take away here is understanding that you need a special kind of originality when it comes to hipsters.
