The Pen is Mightier than the Sword: Explaining the Dominance of Content in the Google Age – Part I

We have been spending some serious time thinking about what ideas and  concepts were important for us to communicate to our vibrant and vital  community.  As we ruminated on the different aspects of site and their  purpose it became clear to us that a very specific challenge faces the  site: the two diverse and divergent groups that utilize it.  Our purchasers have very different needs than our writers, and that asymmetry of understanding has the potential for creating inefficiencies in the whole process.  The better our writers
understand the value of content to Constant-Content’s purchasers, the better they will be able to create content that is in high demand, potentially satisfying our user’s needs--even before they ask.  On the other hand, the more clearly we articulate the vagaries of internet marketing, Search Engine Optimization and other functional requirements of this new medium, the better our consumers will be able to tell our writers what they need.  In the end though, the thing that binds us all together is content.

Most of us have heard that “Content is King” when websites are jockeying for higher positions on the Google search results.  This essentially means that Google, uses a complicated set of parameters to evaluate the ‘value’ or ‘usefulness’ of a particular site, one of these parameters is the quality of the content that is present on the site. There are a couple key components to the evaluation of content to determine its value:

  1. Originality
  2. Keyword density (there are different theories that we will address about the best %)
  3. Length
  4. Topic
  5. Popularity, that is how many people have linked to their pages

We will go into greater depth in future articles.

Parting thoughts for Writers: Make sure that you find important markets were people are actively contesting search engine positions and find ways to develop high quality, original content for these
markets.

Parting thought for Buyers: Evaluate places on your site missing properly developed content and fill it.  Be creative about what type of alternate routes people take to search for your site and develop content for those key words.  Remember that it can take time for Google to index new content, but you are building for the future.

I look forward to starting a constructive dialogue with every member of our community.  Please use the support@constant-content.com to ask questions, keep an eye on the blog and the forum and take advantage of all the resources we offer.
