Honeymooning in Hawaii:
Planning the Perfect Trip
By Kathy Murdock

When most couples dream of the perfect honeymoon, they dream of crystal clear waters, cold strawberry daiquiris, and a relaxing day spent on the sands of an exotic beach. If this is your idea of the perfect honeymoon, consider Hawaii as your destination. The following tips will help ensure that you plan the perfect Hawaiian honeymoon.

First, begin researching months in advance to find the best deals. Check the travel section of the newspaper, which often advertise package and air fare bargains. Contact a travel agent, who might know of deals that you are unable to find. Online travel sites often run specials. Also, search accommodations online and compare prices. During the research phase, create a spreadsheet that will allow you to compare both the price and amenities offered for each option.

Consider amenities. Some accommodations, such as spas and resorts, offer massages and activities included in the price; others, such as condominium or house rentals, don"t. Determine if these are important to you before you being searching for a place to stay.

Do you want a party town loaded with bars and nightlife, or would you prefer a small island that offers a bit of seclusion and serenity? The answer to this question will help you choose the island that"s best for your honeymoon. Hawaii is comprised of several islands and each has its own atmosphere. Kauai is a peaceful island filled with waterfalls, mountains, and open spaces. Oahu offers a variety of activities, from skydiving to nightlife to snorkeling at a marine sanctuary. Lanai and Molokai are smaller islands in the chain, while Maui is a great place to view the humpback whales, take in some sights, and relax with a massage. Lastly, Hawaii"s Big Island offers honeymoon and wedding packages along with golf, adventure, culture, and family fun. First determine the type of vacation you want and then choose the island that best fits your needs.

Accommodations will depend upon the island you choose and can range from a hotel room to a rental home. First, determine the amount of money you want to spend on the accommodation. Remember that if you choose a place with meals included, it will cost more money upfront but might save you money in the long run. Bed and breakfast inns are a nice touch if you don"t mind sharing a house with several couples or families. Most offer breakfast and some include a pool or hot tub and wine tasting in the evening. Hotel rooms, while cheaper, generally don"t offer a range of amenities.
