In our image obsessed modern culture it is often all to easy to define what makes a woman sexy. If you randomly asked anyone on the street the chances are they would reply that it was “the figure”, “nice legs”, “a good bottom”, or perhaps more rarely someone might reply, “the eyes”, or “a nice smile”. But is there more to what makes a woman sexy than mere looks alone?

Replies such as those above are all too typical in modern society and reflect our cultural obsessions with the body, with the aesthetics of a person, with the exterior. It is hardly surprising though that people answer in this way when every single day we are bombarded on television, in magazines, on billboards and posters by scantily clad images of what the media and advertising industries would like us to believe a sexy woman looks like. Why, even right now as you read this it is likely that somewhere on your screen there is an advertising image of a conventionally attractive or sexy woman being used in a bid for your attention.

The hourglass figure, the size zero model, large breasts, a tight bottom, the Hollywood smile; all of these are things that we are told are beautiful but are rarely seen among the common run of people. Is that to say that women who do not look, or cannot afford to look, like celebrities and film stars are not sexy? Of course not.

Although on a psychological level a person´s physical attractiveness does factor into how sexy they are perceived to be, humans have evolved, culturally and as a species, beyond mere biological attraction to a deeper more spiritual and emotional notion of what is sexy. In order to find what truly makes a woman sexy one must look beyond the anatomical, beyond the exterior, to the personality and individual beneath.

Here are a few character traits that can help make a woman sexy:

One key aspect in appearing sexy to the opposite sex is self-confidence. Self-confidence can take many forms, from confidence in one´s abilities, to the confidence that comes from being comfortable in one´s skin. Whatever form it takes, a woman can wear confidence like a cloak (however little else she may be wearing) and a man can positively see a glow of self-confidence around them. It allows a woman´s personality to truly shine through in all its glory. Many men find this sexy in a woman because it signals someone who is not afraid to be an individual in their own right and who has control over their life and situation. Such women are more likely to enter into a relationship on an equal basis and can show and receive affection without being either submissive or overbearing.
