Will Smith is one of the greatest actors of our generation. He is versatile, creative and boyishly handsome. In a world of egotistical male beauties pretending to be artists, he is a genuine actor. Which is why it pains me to say this...

“I Am Legend” is, at best, a mediocre science-fiction film. At worst, it is an improbable fairy tale full of confusing plot twists.

Like many sci-fi and horror movies, it starts with a intriguing idea: an out-of-control virus causes most of mankind to die or turn into horrible mutants. Of course, you can’t really give the makers of “I Am Legend” credit for a great idea; the film is an adaptation of Richard Matheson’s novel by the same title. The book was also the basis for “The Last Man on Earth” in 1964 and “The Omega Man” in 1971.

The main character Robert Neville (Will Smith) is a scientist who formerly worked for the government. Three years after Manhattan is evacuated and the bridges are destroyed to keep the disease from spreading, Neville is the last man in the city. He spends his time fighting mutants, trying to find a cure for the virus, and watching DVDs.
