Mad Money, Bitter Clingers and the Presidental Race

Summary:
Has American become a "nation of whiners," as was suggested by Phil Gramm, or should the economy be micromananged by Congress, as has been suggested by the likes of Maxine Waters, who recently stated she wanted to "nationalize the oil companies." Compare and contrast the attitudes of a free spirited free-market advocate with that of Barack Obama.
Details or Sample:
It is Sunday, July 13, and NBC did something that defied the usual template of mainstream media. The network broadcast the program Jim Cramer: The American Dream, which was a bright and cheerful look at today’s economy and how the average American can tap into its wealth of opportunities.

Unlike every other program on broadcast television, Cramer explained the current economic issues – high gas prices, the diminished value of the stock market, etc. – in terms that even a liberal or a college professor could understand. Did he blame oil companies for “gouging, and advocate new “windfall profits” taxes be imposed as a sanction on energy providers? No – he defined the role of supply and demand on the global price of oil, and interjected that Congress’ ethanol mandates not only had no positive impact on fuel prices but were driving up the prices of commodities used for food. His solution for the average consumer was to “invest in those energy companies you are being told to hate, and take advantage of the current market situation.” Hardly what you would expect from one of the traditional broadcast networks.
