We all know that the bible tells us that satan is the “father of a lie”. In fact we also read “the truth is not in him.” If you are being lied about it is not going to be pleasant. It seems as if you can’t win for losing when doing battle with a liar. You want to turn the other check and ignore the person but then you hear that they have been spreading these lies amongst people that you associate with. What then can you do? You hate having to defend yourself constantly but if you don’t you are afraid that the thing will fester and then untruths will be added to it.

Why do people feel the need to lie about the actions of other? Sometimes it is because they are afraid you will tell others what you know about them that IS true. Sometimes it’s because you have rejected them and then sometimes it’s just plain old jealousy rearing its ugly head.

In James 4:11 we read “Speak not evil one of another.” Today it seems as if Christians are also forgetting that scripture. In the “dog eat dog” world we live in people will do or say anything they want to more often then not. You can always tell when you are starting to make a dent in the Kingdom of God because people start to talk about you. You are examined as if under a microscope. If one little lie about you starts it can sometimes ruin your whole ministry.

As hard as it is we must always remember that it’s not really the person that is our enemy. It is satan working through that person to destroy our peace of mind. Satan will use any willing vessel to accomplish his means. It helps to keep that in mind when the pain of being lied about breaks our hearts. The bible says “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about seeking whom he may devour.” 1 Peter 5:8.
