The Correlation Between Diet and Asthma

Summary:
This article explains the connection between eating certain kinds of food and either worsening asthma symptoms or making them more manageable.
Details or Sample:
Did you know that asthma is more common in Western cultures than Eastern cultures? There may be genetic reasons for this discrepancy as well, but so far the evidence suggests that it is dietary differences that are at the root of the problem. If you already suffer from an asthmatic condition or are genetically inclined to asthma and wish to reduce the possibility of making conditions worse for your children, the first place to start is with your diet.

Fresh fruit and leafy green vegetables are the mainstay for a diet that protects you against the ravages of asthma, as you probably assumed it would be. Many studies have linked the consumption of fruits high in vitamin C with a lessening of the potential to develop bronchial disorders. Even fruits that aren’t necessarily at the top of the vitamin C list are good for you; apples have been shown to do wonders at opening up the air passages that reduce asthmatic effects. As for vitamin C, it is an antioxidant which is extremely helpful in obstructing inflammatory substances known as oxidants that are commonly found in air pollutants and cigarette smoke.

Collard greens, broccoli, cabbage, and peas are wonderful additions to the diet of anyone suffering asthma or other breathing disorders. Research has indicated pretty conclusively that children who eat fewer leafy green vegetables are far more likely to begin suffering wheezing problems when they breathe. These vegetables contain beta-carotene and even high amounts of vitamin C if you don’t cook them.
