Movie Review - Batman Begins
|
Summary:
An analysis and critique of the 2005 film "Batman Begins." Contains a plot summary, character descriptions, and a synopsis of the legend of Batman. |
Details or Sample:
“Batman Begins” is a tale of a descent into madness and obsession, the story of a man driven by his personal demons, the story of Bruce Wayne as he first dons the mask and costume to truly become, perhaps for the first time in film, the iconic creature known as “Batman.”
The film’s director, Christoper Nolan, went to great pains to paint the two worlds of Bruce Wayne in very different ways, through lighting and sets; and Christian Bale completes the effect, by having two completely different screen personas for Bruce Wayne and for Batman. When in the cape and cowl, Bale becomes Batman, a creature meant to instill terror in those he confronts, a creature of darkness, without mirth, without happiness, without remorse.
To say “Batman Begins” is a dark film is an understatement. The few moments of comic relief are delivered by veteran actors Gary Oldman (as police detective Jim Gordon) and Michael Caine (who brilliantly portrays Bruce Wayne’s butler Alfred Pennyworth). But even those few moments are delivered via the fear and trepidation each character has, when Gordon faces the Dark Knight, or Alfred begins to fear what the man who he raised from childhood.
