You know she had them. She´s been gone for ages, her usual haunts abandoned. It takes awhile for her to show up for meals. When she appears she looks haggard and scruffy.

No use asking her where they are. She will mew helpfully and stare at the ground. She will eat everything in sight and fall asleep on the window sill. In vain you wait for her to head in the direction of her latest nest. She rubs on your
leg enjoying your attentions. At your urging she will sniff delicately at a corner of the rug, look bewildered and meow that "They were here last time I looked". Don´t buy it. She knows exactly which drawer she hid them in and whose underwear she´s using.

You could try bribery (´No brushing ´til you tell) But this won´t work until you know where she put them so you can move them and reward her for keeping them in the handy and expensive cat bed that she´s been avoiding like the plague.
