MadeinUSA.com: Making Patriotic Shopping Easy
|
Summary:
This 400-word, mostly-positive review focuses on MadeinUSA.com: an online directory that helps consumers "buy American." |
Details or Sample:
If you want to “buy American,” as we frequently say, an easy source of information is MadeinUSA.com – a Web site that lists hundreds of thousands of companies that are at least partly based here in the United States. Interestingly enough, this site began on July 4, 2004.
The main page is full of information and navigational links to help you find exactly what you’d like to buy. You can also find information about relevant legislature; quotes from consumers and businesses alike, and a little bit of background about the Web site.
Despite being a bit cluttered, MadeinUSA.com is easy to navigate. Most of the elements are intuitively placed for your convenience. Even elements that aren’t quite where they “should” belong, like the search boxes, are very easy to find.
Loading time is almost nonexistent, which means that you can get directly to the business of finding the best companies for your future purchases. There are a few graphics on the main page, but they’re manageable and tasteful.
The site offers several ways to find what you want. You can use the search boxes to find a specific company. This is an easy way to make sure that the computer, pet toy or shirt you’re about to buy was not manufactured in another country.
Another option is to search by product. The results list companies that are at least partly based here in the United States.
You can also browse the directories listed on the left-hand side of the main page. Go here to browse the company directory or search.
When you look through the companies or products, you’ll see some American-flag icons with the listings. The icons signify three important areas.
The far-left flag indicates that the merchandise is manufactured in the United States.
The middle flag indicates that the company uses some percentage of American-made materials.
The far-right flag indicates that the company is incorporated in the United States.
These flag icons help you figure out which companies are “most American,” and which ones are a combination of American and non-American as far as labor, materials and business incorporation goes.
MadeinUSA.com is, overall, a great resource for American consumers. This is a fast-loading, free site that lets you do some quick research before you buy your next product. If you want to be sure that you’re buying American, this site is a great place to start.
