Don´t be daunted by the maze of Internet marketing opportunities for your church band´s new music. It is possible to share the gospel through songs -- and expand your church´s reach -- for free.

Look for social networking websites or other marketing venues which offer free basic service and make their money from advertising or upgraded options. Consider websites which take a percentage of your music sales, rather than fees for usage, storage, or setup. Be sure any agreements are non-exclusive, leaving you free to pursue other marketing options.

These free and pay-as-you-go opportunities can help put your church´s music in front of the unchurched in your area, as well as believers and unbelievers across the globe. But be prepared to promote the band, both online and off.

What you need to get started is one or more recordings of your band´s original music, or other music it has the legal right to share or sell without paying a royalty. An example is a public domain hymn. Songs can be recorded at a music studio or with a computer, software and basic recording equipment. Convert audio files into the mp3 format to share easily online.

Consider adding one or more pages to your church website to share and/or sell mp3s and CDs. Allow listeners to play music directly from your page or use a free music player offered by Reverbnation, Dizzler, Project Opus and similar websites.

For example, the Reverbnation music player allows the music to be shared easily by church members, friends and fans, broadening your Internet exposure. Players can be posted on a number of free websites online, such as the Myspace social networking site and Shoutlife, a Christian counterpart. These sites can expand your outreach efforts and open new doors for band gigs.

Other tools at www.reverbnation.com let you link to online stores where your music is sold, manage your fans through direct email, monitor how many times your songs are played, and advertise through widgets, banners, and tune packs. Link to your band weblog and, if you like, even share in Reverbnation´s ad revenues.

Check these other opportunities:

* Sell you music through www.snowcap.com, which offers a portable storefront enabling you to sell on Myspace, Shoutlife and elsewhere. You pay a portion of proceeds.
