Illuminating Your Garden with Solar Powered Lights

You spend hours planning and maintaining your garden area and enjoy your efforts throughout the day, but when nighttime falls, all of your hard work is swallowed by the darkness. Solar powered lights are a perfect way to fix this problem. Not only will they enhance the look of your garden, but they will also allow you the opportunity to enjoy its beauty long after the sun has set.
Solar powered lights work like mini-satellites. Each day they are charged by the sun, and each night they use this stored power to light up. Once fully charged they will run for approximately eight to ten hours. For optimal performance, place in the path of direct sunlight.
Solar lights are a better option than conventional lighting for many reasons. They do not require the use of wires, which would detract from the beauty of your garden. Since they are battery operated, they will not run up your electric bill. Installation takes only minutes and does not have to be done by someone with electrical experience. Because of their growing popularity, solar lights can be found in most home decorating stores, and they are available in a variety of shapes and sizes.
Before you begin to shop, use a pencil and paper to map out your garden. Then determine the areas you wish to showcase. If you have not yet begun planting, draw a picture of what you envision your garden will look like once it is completed. Include the placement of accessories, such as benches, statues, ponds, and even your back porch. Consider lighting walkways and ponds, too.
Once you know what you want to illuminate, remember some decorating basics. First, less is more, even when it comes to lighting. Using a lot of light will overpower your garden"s beauty while drawing the eyes away from what you had hoped to accentuate. |
