Summary:
When we love our work, it is easy to become so immersed in it that we forget the one who gave it to us. But we need to remember to put God first, always. |
Details or Sample:
God is such a good God that he gives us work we really love doing -- work we love so much we can lose ourselves in it. Yet we need to remember to put him first, always.
There is nothing more gratifying than bringing others to Christ, then seeing them grow in the faith and go off to win more souls. There is nothing more meaningful, no work more valuable.
But we can become so caught up in the excitement of the work that we lose sight of the one who gave it to us.
The church at Ephesus was chastised for just such a failing.
"I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars; And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name´s sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted.," the Lord told the church in Revelation 2:2 and 3.
"Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love." Revelation 2:4
The church was told to repent and "do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place," Revelation 2:5
So, in our zeal to serve God, we need to remember the church of Ephesus.
We also need to remind ourselves about Mary and her busy sister Martha, who we learn about in Luke 10. We need to remember, like Mary, to choose that better portion. We need to abandon all to sit at Jesus´ feet and hear his voice.
"Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:
"But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her," Jesus tells us in Luke 10:41, 42.
Father, help me to spend quiet time with you hearing your voice and following your instructions. I know it is you who enables me to serve. I know you are the most important one of all. In Jesus´ name, Amen.
