Grace abounds. Spring is almost here. Sap is rising in winter-weary trees, bulbs are peeking, barren sod is greening, and the eternal renewal of the resurrection of our Lord and Savior is soon to be celebrated.
How appropriate that God renews our little space on His earth at this time each year - melting away winter’s cold apathy. As pastors, we certainly need renewal. When Christmas passes, January arrives with a cold, hard reality. By February we are longing for the vibrancy of spring, but winter is everywhere and…we might be just a tad cranky.
Women in ministry are in powerful positions of authority. Our congregation looks up to us, we are needed and respected, we have invaluable resources at our ready: knowledge, peer support, congregational support – God’s support. So why are we cranky – why are our attitudes wrapped in cold weather gear – zipped up to “there” – and completely impenetrable?
Ask these questions: Am I too tired to lead this week’s Bible study. Am I too distracted with administrative meetings to counsel my parishioners? Am I overwhelmed with the urgent need to pray for rest and renewal – but too inattentive to pray with strong faith and conviction? Are our prayers just so many words, uttered by rote, to rush through and get on with our day?
