A Review of Bob's Grill on the Ocean City, New Jersey Boardwalk

 (Best Offer)
Summary:
This mixed review features Bob´s Grill, a longstanding restaurant on the Ocean City, New Jersey boardwalk.
Details or Sample:
Bob’s Grill is an Ocean City, New Jersey mainstay. Located on the narrow southern portion of the boardwalk, Bob’s open façade offers diners plenty of access to a light breeze, and the restaurant’s wide booths are some of the best places on the boardwalk for people watching. (Early in the morning, bicyclers are the most common type of people you’ll see going by.)

The walls of Bob’s Grill, like those of local hangouts all over the country, show off some of the town’s best athletes – in this case, the Ocean City Beach Patrol. Framed group and individual photos of last century’s lifeguards in uniform provide both an interesting contrast to and a sense of consistency with current photographs; as a collection, they give diners a sense of the restaurant’s pride in Ocean City tradition.

Both the sit-down portion of Bob’s Grill and its newer express section are best known for breakfast, although Bob’s offers a steakhouse menu later in the day. At breakfast, the menu is extensive, offering fresh fruit, bagels, pastry, omelets, pancakes, french toast, and more. The food is good but not good enough to justify the higher prices there compared to similar restaurants elsewhere in town. A bowl of sliced bananas (in actuality, probably one small banana) cost $1.75 in 2007, and three, three-inch pancakes with a few chocolate chips in their centers were $5.95. The large juice was $0.75 more than the small juice, but the difference in the size of the cups was probably less than an ounce.

Like most boardwalk restaurants, Bob’s is generally staffed by college students on summer break. Over the years, the service has been average – not particularly good, nor particularly bad. You should receive your meal without too long of a wait, and the servers will check on you at appropriate intervals.

Bob’s biggest draws are probably its longstanding status as an Ocean City favorite and its location right on the boardwalk. Families wanting to enjoy a quintessential Ocean City eatery will want to try a meal at Bob’s, but those who are just looking for a quick bite to eat before hitting the beach or the boardwalk may do better somewhere else.
