Feeding A Child's Soul

Summary:
A touching story about two brothers and how their mother aids in her youngest son´s quest to define who he is and where he fits in.
Details or Sample:
There were two brothers and as can be common with siblings, the older brother was not afraid to try new things from sports to music to drama. For the most part, he did fairly well at everything he tried without much effort. If he didn’t do well at something, he shook it off and moved onto something else. The younger brother was a little more reserved and undecided as to what he liked. He tried many things too but nothing seemed to interest him for very long.

In the younger brother’s mind, his older brother was smarter, stronger and better at everything. The younger brother was somewhat shy and hesitant. He didn’t know what he wanted or what he liked. Sometimes, he would follow his brother’s lead and try the same things but he realized that he didn’t like some of those activities nor was he skilled at them. He sometimes felt depressed that he wasn’t more like his brother.

Their mother began to see her younger son struggling with this notion that his older brother was better than him. She could sense his spirit fading as he tried to define who he was and where he fit in. She enrolled him in piano lessons, drum lessons, skating, hockey and Tae Kwon Do but still her youngest son struggled to discover his niche. Although his piano teacher remarked that he had natural talent for the tinkling the ivories of a piano, the younger son did not possess the enthusiasm to practice. As with the rest of the activities, the younger son excelled but he did not find his special gift and quit each activity in search of something he really liked.

By this time, the oldest son was preparing to enter high school. He was interested in applying to a special school that offered an extended drama program. He would have to work hard at his acting skills and audition before a panel of judges as part of the application process. After months of attending drama classes after school, the older son applied for the arts school’s drama program and was accepted.
