Although he had several classic love songs, Don Ho would gain his recognition as a timeless crooner with a funny little ditty called “Tiny Bubbles”. The song would take the singer by surprise because of its instant popularity, catapulting his career into the mainstream music scene of the early 1970s.

Don was originally an athlete, earning sports scholarships for Springfield College in Massachusetts, and later his hometown campus of The University of Hawaii in 1953.

After school Don’s next calling was inspired by the American service men of World War II which he idolized. Ho was soon enlisted as a member of the U.S. Air Force and served a tour of duty in the Korean War.

Following Korea, Ho found himself drawn to yet another calling, that of bartending. Ho took over his parents struggling family bar in Oahu, Hawaii, called “Honey’s”. Pulling Honey’s out of trouble, Ho next decided he wanted to find a way to not only keep the bar alive, but draw new crowds in and turn them into regular customers. On a whim he put together a band and set himself up as lead singer. News of the crooning bartender quickly spread, and Honey’s soon became a Hawaiian hotspot.

Ho originally only performed well-known hit songs from American radio, but eventually expanded his repertoire to include new, original tunes.
