From the Bedroom to the Boardroom - Dress for Success
|
Summary:
The clothes we wear say a lot about who we are. If you´re not careful, the pieces you choose could be giving off the wrong impression. What are your clothes saying about you? |
Details or Sample:
When we receive a gift on a special occasion, there is not much to see at first. There may be a box or a bag. It may be bright and colorful or subdued hues. Somehow, though, we seem to be able to tell a lot about that gift just by how it is wrapped. A bright pink bag is surely for a woman, for example, and that cute little box with cartoonish baby ducks and lambs must be a gift for a small child.
Many of us propagate these assumptions by running out to buy the “appropriate” gift bag or wrapping paper to wrap each gift that we give, lending the assumption that Santa paper is only for Christmas, ribbons are for girls, and cute prints are just for kids. This is because, despite the fact that the outer wrapping has nothing whatsoever to do with the gift that is inside, we know that first impressions count, and we want to make the right ones. The same goes for our own wrappings, though many of us forget this from time to time. It is important to pay close attention to what impressions you are giving with your clothing if you wish to dress for success.
Dressing for success does not always mean looking your best, but it does mean paying close attention to the messages that your clothes are sending. From the bedroom to the boardroom, there are subtle cues that our clothing may be showing people, and our attire could be screaming out the wrong message as clearly as clown paper screams “happy birthday”.

A red dress suit is acceptable, but don’t underestimate the power of a red silk scarf tied around your neck to bring your dark suits to life. Don’t forget...(buy article to read more)
How to Dress… For a Date
Dressing for a date is as difficult as dressing for work. What you wear depends on how serious you are about the person, and what image of yourself you wish to show him as well as on special circumstances, like where you are going on the date. You would not, after all, dress the same for a fancy dinner as...(buy article to read more)
