How to Get Free Publicity
|
Summary:
Publicize your business for free using these helpful tips. Make yourself available to the press for interviews and watch sales climb. |
Details or Sample:
Businesses, especially small ones, often overlook perfectly good chances to promote their companies -- for free.
All it takes is some savvy, time and diligent effort. The secret is knowing what -- exactly -- is newsworthy and getting it to the press in a timely manner. Today´s news, after all, is fish wrap tomorrow.
So, what is newsworthy?
Opening a new business is, so don´t get bogged with other details at this critical time. Make time for interviews and press releases.
Even if you are starting small, your local newspaper might be persuaded to run a brief announcement. But make it easy for them. Prepare a press release with the basic details about your business: Name, address, opening day, what you sell, how many people are employed, etc.
The old journalism rule is who, what, when, where, how and sometimes why.
Make a polite phone call and find out how they prefer to receive their press releases. Then submit according to their specifications by e-mail, snail mail, fax, or online posting.
This will reduce the amount of time the reporter must spend preparing your news brief for publication.
After your opening -- and even grand opening -- is behind you, you still have chances to get your company publicized.
