Located about 2300 miles southwest of Hawaii and directly east of Australia, this tropical chain of seven Polynesian islands offers the adventurous traveler something well above the ordinary.

Also, as with any far out destination, airfare is usually the best way for a traveler to reach these islands. From the U.S., planes usually depart from Hawaii or the West Coast.

The American Samoa is a place of unbridled beauty. The largest island, Tutuila, holds the one main harbor and the capital city of Pago Pago. It is a mountainous, rugged region covered with lush, beautiful rainforests. The mountains go straight into the azure, pristine ocean leaving no room for sandy beaches. Pago Pago is a city that has the blight of western civilization at its edges, but the native Samoans have remained friendly and strongly keep their ancient traditions.
