It’s no secret that Hollywood couples have little if any privacy, but the animosity between Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger has made their daughter Ireland a public spectacle as well. Baldwin, apparently angered when eleven year old Ireland didn’t take his call, left a seething voice mail, filled with name-calling and what some commentators believe to be “threatening” language.

Baldwin called his daughter a “rude, thoughtless, little pig.” He said he would be flying out to see her and “straighten your ass out.” The message went on and on, with Baldwin sounding more and more unhinged. He even disparaged his ex-wife to his daughter, a big no-no when custody and visitation are at issue.

While Alec Baldwin is well known for his outbursts, this tirade was directed at his child. A family court judge has temporarily removed Baldwin’s visitation rights. Many find cutting him off from his child completely to be extreme but no judge can ignore such treatment of a child, not even when the father’s name is Baldwin (especially not after the entire world heard the awful recording over and over again).

Many people, most notably those who are not fans of Baldwin, are not surprised by his raging at his child, since it is not exactly unheard for him to launch into loud, obnoxious rants. Yet, this is not something that the press can or will cover up, nor will they be able to spin it. Didn’t anyone ever tell Alec Baldwin he might want to restrain himself when he’s being recorded?

In fairness, Baldwin is human too...
