Signs That You Are Diabetic

 (Best Offer)
Summary:
An article discussing health problems that can indicate diabetes.
Details or Sample:
Diabetes is becoming more of a problem across the United States. At least six per cent of Americans are thought to be diabetic, and many of these people do not even know that they have the condition. Could you be one of these people? Would you know how to spot potential diabetes signs?

What is diabetes?

There are two main types of diabetes. Type 1 diabetes means that your body cannot produce enough insulin to control your blood sugar levels. Type 2 diabetes means that your body can create insulin, but it is not used efficiently enough to control your blood sugar levels. Both types of diabetes need treatment to control them. Insulin injections are currently the only treatment for type 1 diabetes, but type 2 diabetes can be controlled using a combination of diet and exercise. Insulin injections may still be necessary though.

Who is at risk of diabetes?

Anyone can become diabetic, but certain groups of people are more likely than others to develop diabetes. These include African-Americans, Hispanics and Asian-Americans, as well as people who are of Native American descent.

What diabetes signs should I be looking out for?

Constant thirst: A strong thirst is often one of the first diabetes signs that people become aware of. It often indicates type 2 diabetes. It is more than just a regular thirst. You should be concerned if you drink more than the recommended eight glasses of liquid every day, and are still thirsty. Needing to get up in the night to get a drink is also cause for concern, if it is a frequent occurrence.

Frequent urination: It stands to reason that drinking a lot of liquid is going to result in a lot of visits to the toilet. Frequent urination is another diabetes sign. Frequent in this sense is anything above three or four times per day. This is the amount of times that the average person needs to use the toilet.

Dry mouth: Diabetics often complain of problems with their oral health, such as experiencing more cavities, gum disease and bad breath. Thus, it is important to take notice of your oral health, as it can be an early indication of type 1 diabetes, which will require insulin in order to treat it.

Vision problems: If you have started experiencing vision problems, this can be a type 1 diabetes sign. Blurred vision is often one of the first eye problems to materialize. Other vision problems include double vision and cloudy vision.
