Bath Time for Your Bulldog

Summary:
Bathing a bulldog is not like bathing any other shorthaired dog. Here are some tips for the bulldog owner who does their own grooming.
Details or Sample:
Start your program with regular grooming for your bulldog. The more you groom, the less often they will need an actual bath. Pay special attention not only to brushing but to taking a soft cloth over problem spots to help remove any dander or other buildup in the wrinkles.

When you get to the actual bathing, you may want to take some simple precautions to help both you and your dog.

Before you begin, make sure everything you will need is handy. you might also place cotton balls in your dog´s ears to prevent any moisture form getting into the ear canals and causing trouble later. Have plenty of towels handy for the drying process later, too.

Bulldogs were bred to be muscular and quite strong. They also may pull or push and slip in the tub. Preventing this is as simple as using a rubber bathmat in the bottom of the tub. While it will give your dog more traction to try to dodge you, if he´s of that mind, it will also help to prevent his slipping and getting a snout full of water. A dog who thinks it is drowning will panic, possibly injuring himself and you.

The breed is low to the ground, making the bending and stooping aspect hard on your back. Put a towel or padded mat next to the tub so you can sit or kneel more comfortably while still being able to reach all parts of your bully.

Use only a small amount of shampoo for each wash. Many people use too much shampoo and find it difficult to rinse away, or do not rinse completely, allowing skin irritation. Wash the bully´s body, working the lather over all skin surfaces, making sure to avoid his face and eyes. Rinse him twice, making sure that all shampoo is removed. For his face, use a sponge or wash-cloth. Make sure you again to cover all skin surfaces, and to rinse well.
