The Boring Truth of Reality Shows
Voyeurism started a long time ago, as a specialty interest, known rather, as a fetish, if you will. Now it seems that the market demand for reality has made the genre unbelievably popular. Seems we have a natural desire to see what happens in otherīs lives - Even the stupid stuff! Reality shows have changed to way we view the world around us, and the networks are all thriving big time for it. American Idol, Big Brother, Survivor, Real World, Surreal Life, Bachelor, Amazing Race...the list could go on. But, what is it that we are so drawn to?
First - Reality TV has changed the odds of becoming famous. Secondly - The competition aspect certainly draws the hopes of a million wanna-bes out there. Anybody has a chance to become rich, or better yet, a person of celebrity. All thats needed is an edgy personality, a camera crew and a way to get the name out. Thirdly, numerous individuals have gotten more than their fair share of face time, mainly because they started as a "voter favorite".
Just prior to their 15 minutes, these contestants were nobodies. Average Joes and Janes from any-town, USA. Now they appear before the masses, hoping they have the flair to attract a solid fan base. Bless them - Nobody ever hangs out in front of so many cameras and mics, and doesnīt make a total fool of themselves!
