Deodorizing Wooden Butcher Blocks

Summary:
A suggestion for deodorizing wooden butcher blocks and cutting boards.
Details or Sample:
If you enjoy owning a wooden butcher block or cutting board, you now that sometimes it can put off odd odors. These odors of course are leftovers from things you have cut on it. Because of the nature of the wood, no matter how much you clean, the odors can reoccur.

There is a simple method of deodorizing your block. Simply sprinkle baking soda on a wet sponge and scrub it across all the surfaces of your block or board. Let this sit for a minute or two, then rinse well.

Re-season the wood with a light coat of mineral oil. Do not use vegetable oil as it is heavier and may leave a nasty residue later. Wipe away all excess oil with a paper towel.

Using this method regularly will help to prevent your block from emitting unpleasant aromas in your kitchen.
