Do you have a story to tell about Jesus? If you know him, itīs likely you do. You may have more than one.
Itīs not surprising. Our God is a good God.
Would you like some help preparing a written testimony? If so, here are some tips I learned in journalism school and my reporting career, which hopefully will help you be a better witness for Christ.
* Know your audience and write for them.
In Journalism school, we learned to write to the fifth grade level. Itīs a level which is fairly easy to read, even if you are not a scholar.
Writing for younger children requires simpler language: shorter words and less complicated subjects or meanings. You also have to keep their shorter attention spans in mind.
If you are writing to encourage believers, you donīt need to cover the basics like how to accept the gift of salvation. But if you are writing for unbelievers, you will have to start at the beginning and explain the basics of your beliefs. If you donīt do so, you may lose an opportunity to help them know Jesus.
Tailor your choice of words, the length of your piece, and especially the start of your testimony with your target audience in mind. Try to grab their interest at the onset. Give them the detail they want and need as the story progresses, then close it out with something they can remember, if you can.
