Dragons have been a part of folklore, legends and mythology for centuries. Dragons in stories from around the world are often described as fantastic animals with scaly, serpentine bodies. Formidable claws, wings and the occasional ability to breathe fire are also associated with these amazing creatures. While some dragons, such as fairy dragons, are described as being tiny, most dragons are extremely large.

Western dragons are often ferocious and associated with evil, but Eastern dragons are often assigned positive traits. Chinese dragons, called Lung, are considered wise, powerful and benevolent. Asian dragons are not winged, but instead are water animals. Dragons are a protective icon of the Chinese New Year and are charged with preventing evil spirits from interfering with the new year. Those who are born in the Chinese year of the dragon are highly confident perfectionists. In Japan, it is still possible to visit shrines to dragons including the famous Isle of the Temple in Japans Inland Sea. ..
