There´s a growing trend among teenagers to take video games, anime and magna characters and put them in other situations via creatively written stories called fan fiction.

One Ohio parent of a 14-year old was at first wary about letting her daughter´s 20-year old online female friend that had been chatting with her daughter for a year come to visit from Newport News, Virginia after the two had met in an online fan fiction forum where stories were written about favorite video and anime characters, including Kingdom Hearts II. The mother thought she did her homework and met the friend´s mother, talked to the friend and even the grandmother; the mother felt comfortable with the situation and allowed the visit. The girl was moving to Ohio to go to college and seemed on the surface every inch a regular freshman. What the mother didn´t know is both her daughter and the friend were engaged in the very popular past time of yaoi, involving not only stories and artwork that are homosexual in nature and usually explicit but also online role playing,some of it sexual in nature, as well.

What Is Yaoi?

Yaoi, when used in this context, is a form of writing or art that primarily concentrates on male homosexual relationships. The fan fics and art run from the very tame with two male anime or manga characters simply standing side by side to the very sexually explicit homosexual sex scenes to rape scenes or "non-con" which stands for non-consensual sex.

Several anime, manga and video games have fan fics and yaoi stories devoted directly to them. If a game or series has attractive male characters in it, there are probably yaoi fans of the characters as well that write stories and make artwork depicting their favorite male characters in compromising positions. The stories are written by small groups that are sometimes called circles or clans.

And it´s not just boys. Boys tend to be drawn more to hentai, the pornographic anime art and writings involving men and women. More and more girls tend to be found role playing as their favorite male characters in video games.
