Finding Me

Summary:

Eight years later, with a ring, a condo, a new car, and a wedding being avoided. I woke up with the sun shinning so bright in my eyes it was burning. It was as if I could feel the heat rushing through every inch of my body.

I slowly made it outside. Nothing looked the same. All I saw were the wonders of our world. The way the grass blew in the wind. How I could feel summer. Mainly how I had been numb to feeling any of this before.

Why? I was running from myself. I hid behind a powerful man who made me weak, unwanted, ugly and worthless. A man who didn"t think I was worth looking at.

That day I woke up changed all that. I left. I left everything. Everything, including, sleepless nights on the couch. Staying up wondering where he was or who he was with. I left the worthless trinkets that were to buy my forgiveness. The lies of happiness I told myself. I left the holes in walls, and the thrown objects. I left a weak man that I no longer could look at.

The one thing I took …Me. I may not have known who that was anymore, but it is all I wanted.
