Mine, Mine, Mine; Teaching your Kids to Give

Summary:
This 579 word article presents some thoughts on teaching giving in a self-centered world.
Details or Sample:
toy store, clutching a piece of plastic, screaming that he needs it. Sitcom mom, looking near tears herself, gives in and gives the spoiled brat another toy.

Sadly, this scene is sometimes too close to the truth. And we"re not talking about a child in the grips of the "Terrible Twos." For many families, our culture has become wrapped up in what we have and how fast we can get more. From the SUV to the newest electronic toys, the media has us convinced that each new product is a "must have." And children, being the great imitators that they are, follow along.

Yet, hopefully, as adults, we realize that there is more to life than what we have. It"s not true that "whoever dies with the most toys wins." There is so much joy to be found in giving. Parents need to be more pro-active in teaching this lesson to their kids.

Occasions like birthdays present the perfect example.
